Tidbits of a 2 year old

July 27th, 2009 by Jill

Happy Birthday to my little cute, all-boy 2-year-old!

I love when you cuddle into my arms. I love when you look at me with your big, round, blue eyes. I love when you play with your sister, brothers, and friends. I love how you adore balloons, cars, trucks, balls, and basketball. I love how you are such a picky eater. I love how you say all of your words (you sound like such a big boy in a small body). I love how you try to say Jacob, but “Gobby” is what comes out; Nicole is “Cole;” and Logan is “Go-go.” I love how you copy everything your big brother and sister does. I love how special you are in every way. Our family wouldn’t be complete without you!

“Please Let Go!”

So this post has been a long time coming. Sheesh! So Nicole finally got her first ever bike. Yes, it’s true. Grandma took her on a surprise shopping trip and she got to pick out her own set of wheels! Wow, was she ever excited. Now she can finally ride with all of her friends. Oh wait! You have to know how to ride first, right? So when we first got it it rained for nearly 2 weeks straight. Not too much riding time was done then. It was very disappointing. But soon enough the sun came back and Nicole was diligent in practicing everyday. It didn’t take too long (she did, after all, have to learn all of the basics, not just balancing since this is her first bike). I took her out nearly everyday. I could tell that she really had the balance down, but I just couldn’t bear to let go of her shirt. I kept thinking, “what if she falls?, etc” The time came when she actually kept asking me to let her go and my reply was, soon, honey. Mommy is just a little scared. Each day she kept asking and that asking turned into insistence and quickly turned into demanding. Fine. I just have to let her do it. These are her exact words the moment before I let go, “Mommy, please let me go. I’m ready. I can do it!” And she was right. Life’s lessons are always at the door. Looks like I will always have a hard time letting go of my little girl even when I know the time is right!

And on a second note, Nicole lost her 2nd tooth in June, too! It was loose. She was sitting down with her knees bent up and somehow hit her leg on her chin and out she popped. It must have hurt her pretty bad (or the blood scared her after she looked in the mirror) because she came up to me crying, “Mom I lost my tooth!” Then she had to go show her friends, crying simultaneously. Looks like the tooth fairy will be a regular occurrence around here for awhile!
